We will begin this demonstration by drawing
the walls of a house. To do this we must
first select the DRAW function from the
list of functions shown across the bottom
of the screen.
**0001
Notice that the function list has changed
to show more detailed draw functions. This
layering of functions makes using SoftPlan
very easy since never have to remember
any commands. Simply choose the function from
the list and if more detailed information is
needed another function list will appear.
**0002
To draw the exterior walls we must select the
WAL TYPE function (F8) from the draw options.
**0003
A list of the wall
types available
will appear on the
screen. These can be
changed or others
added as you need
them.
We will select
2x4 hollow with brick
to draw the outside
walls.
**0004
To draw a wall all we do is move the cursor
to mark where we wish to start drawing the wall.
**0005
We then move the cursor to
show where we wish to end the wall.
**0006
We can use the same method to add the
rest of the exterior walls
**0007
To draw the interior walls
we must again select the WAL TYPE
function to activate the list of wall
types.
This time we will choose
2x4 partition for the interior walls.
**0008
We now draw the interior walls
into the building.
**0009
Until this time we have been
drawing the walls with the
LOCK feature on. This makes it
very easy to draw perfect
horizontal and vertical walls.
We can turn this lock feature
off by pressing F9 LOCK which
will allow us to draw walls, or
any object at the angle we
choose.
**0010
Now let's zoom in a little closer
to see the detail which has been
automatically drawn.
**0011
Now that all the walls have been
drawn we will add the windows
and doors.
To do this we select the
WND/DOOR function from the
list of functions.
**0012
The function list has changed to
show the list of window and door
types available.
Since we wish to start with windows
we select WINDOWS (F1).
**0013
To draw a window we use the cursor to
to show where we wish to begin drawing
the window and how large to draw it.
The tape measurer in the lower right
hand corner shows the actual size
of the window.
**0014
We can use the same method
to add the remaining windows.
**0015
To draw a door all we need do is
select the door function, then
draw the door using the same steps
as we used to draw a window.
**0016
We can use the same method to draw the
rest of the windows and doors for
the building.
**0017
We will now add the dimension information
to the floorplan.
In some cases, for example outside walls
we may choose to add extension lines
to which we will add the actual dimensions.
SoftPlan can automatically add extension
lines to the end of the wall and to each
window or door on the wall. We can choose
to dimension to either the center or
edge of each window or door.
**0018
If we wish we can also add a single extension
line.
This will allow us to place an extension
line on the edge or center of an wall
window or door to be dimensioned.
**0019
Once the extension lines are in place we
can begin to add the dimension lines.
Once again dimensioning is very easy, all
we need do is show where we wish to start
the dimension string and where we wish to
end it. SoftPlan will scan all items between
these limits and automatically add a dimension
number.
Various arrow styles are available from which
you can choose your preference.
**0020
This shows how quickly you can draw and dimension
a floorplan.
To see how easy it is to make extensive changes to
the floorplan select the next demonstration
"Making changes".
